I am excited to share the release of my latest painting fresh off the easel! Titled, ‘Leaning Eilean’ this painting is one of my largest to date at 25″x40″, acrylic on fine art board. I love painting boats under sail, and the opportunity to capture a boat as beautiful as Eilean is a real honour. Eilean, is a 72′ Bermudian ketch, designed and built in 1936 by Scottish boatyard Fife. Fife, a legendary Scottish yacht builder in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was renowned for the quality and classic lines of his boats. I really like the colour palette in this painting with the soft muted yellow of the sail against the green in the water. With this painting, I wanted to bring the viewer closer in to the boat to capture a more intimate fell, rather than pushing the boat back into the scene to enable the full view of the sails. Composing a scene like this also helps capture the feel of speed and movement, almost as if your eyes have not had the chance to capture the boat in full, due to the speed she is traveling.
