REMNANTS OF THEIR LOVE STORY

REMNANTS OF THEIR LOVE STORY

This collection speaks to the lives that built our heritage—the quiet stories carried across distance, work, and time.
Presented in fragments rather than chronology, these paintings follow a man and woman journeying west by horse and carriage, leaving the East for the Prairies in search of land and a life of their own. Their story is not told through grand moments, but through what endures—the waiting, the labour, the changing sky, and the steady presence of one beside the other.
Each painting is a remnant. A piece of something lived.
Every scene is conceptualized by Neil and grounded in real places, real light, and real experience. Neil and Cheri stand as the figures within the work, ensuring the story is not imagined from a distance, but built by hand and observed firsthand. Nothing artificial—only what is real, and what remains.
The story is not linear, because heritage rarely is. It reveals itself in fragments, gathered over time.
What you see here is more than a single journey. It is a reflection of those who came before—lives not recorded, but still present in the land… and in the remnants they left behind.
